This is safer. Everyone will put out the fire, then I will see! "Amelia hesitated, eyeing the fire. "I do not want her dead," the girl whispered. "Today is her wedding day, Juliette. It should be her happiest day. "Juliette saw her throat choking, but she nodded. "Do not worry. The Duke will find her. You are so sure. "Sinclair stood by the valley, helping Margaret climb into the carriage before turning to the other farmers. From the back of the horse, he urged women and children to go south, away from the burning house. The sisters sat closely in the carriage, silently waiting for the car to be pulled away. Their servant - MacKinloch - will hit the car, Juliette staring out and see Dr. Fraser still helping Sinclair and farmers put out fire. The fire was still burning, and finally the duke appeared. He wrapped his arms around Victoria, took her outside, away from the fire and headed for a pile of snow. Juliette sighed, glad to see her sister alive. At the same time her mother turned around and wiped her tears from her cheeks. "It's safe," Beatrice said as she got in the car. The expression on her face showed that she seemed to be ten years older in an hour. She pressed her fingers to her temples as she tried to calm her nervous nerves. "Will they come with us?" Amelia asked bristlyly.Beatrice shook her head. "The car has no place. The Duke will take care of it. We will go to his house in Eiloch Hill. I believe I will meet them both there. "The servant closed the car door and started the journey toward the mat. The horse struggled with snow and ice, so Juliette wondered: easier. Many times they have to stop in the middle of the road but no one complains. At this point, the thought of their house burning up became strange because just hours ago, they were helping their sister make up for the wedding. Juliet attentively looked out, worried for Dr. Fraser. . He commanded, leading the peasants southward to the land of the duke. But where is he going now? It took an hour or more to reach Eiloch Hill, especially when he kept pace with pedestrians. It was very cold outside and she could not stop thinking about him. You should not let your mind wander about thinking about you. But he rushed through the crowd just to find her. She can not pretend that she does not feel relieved to see him peacefully. Some reason reminds her that they are just friends. Of course she could be happy because he was not injured. But that's all. Her heart pounding was just as frightened by what had just happened. She took a deep breath and slowly. After all the mistakes made, she has no right to believe that she can start again. She made the mistake and paid ten times. But she had a lovely son. The child has taken over her heart and she loves it more than her own. It has a new family, adoptive parents will give it the title and wealth. Everything except a real mother. Her heart now has a big hole in the realization that Matthew will never know who his biological mother is. And due to the birth of a child, another child will surely make her face death. Not only did she run a lot of blood but she nearly died of a fever later. The nurse advised her not to try again. That meant that if she wanted to, she could not sleep in the same bed with a man because of the fear of becoming pregnant again. That's the lightest way. She also does not want to be touched like that any more, and there is another important reason - it can endanger her life. She can easily ignore the suggestion of strangers and men of wealth, titles. But chasing after her best friend is a completely different story. She must hold firmly the frozen wall surrounding her heart, especially now. Repeat Paul after a long, long time that has broken her heart. She could never tell him what had happened. He had to leave her and look for another woman to be his wife - someone who could give him the kids he craved for the life he deserved. So that would be better for both of them. Chapter 2
At the Eiloch Hill, Juliette walked like a dream. The Duke of Worthingstone has a team of courteous servants and she finds herself welcomed in the room she will be living with Amelia. Their housekeeper, Mrs. Larson, will also be accompanied, together with the duke's servants, to ensure that they are most comfortable, although almost all of their clothes are burnt.
Mrs. Larson offered to help but Juliette refused. "After awhile!" After what happened, she needed a few minutes to clear her mind again. She suspected she could hardly sleep. A chill ran down her back as she remembered the fire that destroyed everything. She is afraid of the images that will rush about every time the eyes closed.
"She will be more comfortable," the butler pleaded. "Look at your sister! She slept well. "
While it is hard to see Amelia as a little girl, Juliette is grateful that one of her sisters can rest tonight.
"I'll find you when you want to change," she told Larson. "It will not be an hour, I promise!"
The housekeeper squinted. "Are you looking to meet him? That handsome Dr. Fraser. "
"No," she said, alarmed by Mrs. Larson's words. Her heart was pounding. "I ... I mean, he ..."
Mrs. Larson folded her arms, raising her eyebrows. "You can quibble what you want, Miss Juliette. But we all know Dr. Fraser is willing to jump to the ground if she tells him to do so. "
"I will never ask him to do anything for me," she replied. "We are totally unfit."
Despite Juliette's protest, the housekeeper shook her head. "Give that guy a chance. He has no noble title, but has a good heart. "
The title was nothing to her, Juliette thought.
"And he loves her," Larson added. "Is that worth it?"
"He does not love me," Juliette
insisted. "He can not. We are just friends. "She had to believe that. His letters are filled with humorous stories and moments throughout his studies. She had to forget the love words he had written as well as the promise of her wedding day. Friendship is all they ever had.
But even so, she still remembered the feeling Paul placed on his shoulders and his concern. She lost herself for a moment, his eyes turning her back to five months still young.
"Whatever she says," Larson said, without much convincing. "But she caught her sister's shawl. We all believe you are the next person to marry. Either with Dr. Fraser or with an aristocrat her mother chooses, no one speaks. "
"No, I will not marry." She was not interested in their superstitious view of their absurdity. She refuses to marry and can not let anyone convince her to do so.
"The MacKinloch people have a betting that next summer, Dr. Fraser will be her husband. Maybe it's the truth. "The housekeeper's complacent face made Juliette angry.
What did Paul say to those farmers or academics about them? He must know what to do better!
"Maybe you should talk to him," Larson suggested. "He's outside, talking to MacKinloch."
Her first thought was to scrape away. But ... what if he said something to someone else? She thought last time she had clearly expressed her views, but perhaps it would take some time to get a firm grasp on marriage out of Paul's head.
She borrowed the butler's shawl, adding, "I'll be back in an hour."
Mrs. Larson nodded. "Peace of mind, I will not tell Lanfordshire lady where she went, if that's what she's worried about. Be careful, okay? "Juliette nodded, her legs out of the bedroom when the housekeeper told her," I think if you hurry, you'll find him. "
Juliette down the stairs, towards the door
